NICHD Study of Early Care and Youth Development
Showing Quality Child Care Makes a Difference!

Today, NACCRRA distributed a press release to national and local media outlets regarding the findings of the Early Child Care Study released today by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). According to the study, high-quality child care has a long-lasting impact on a child's development, behavior and cognitive abilities. Children who received high-quality care in the first few years of life scored higher on measures of academic and cognitive achievement when they were 15 years old, and were less likely to misbehave, than those who were enrolled in lower-quality child care.

Update on CDCA's Health Symposium

On May 22, CDCA hosted it's first ever Health Symposium.

The event was composed of both clock hour trainings and exhibitors. The 11 different trainings offered opportunities for 3 clock hours at $10 total.

ST. LOUIS — Working at a day care has its perks. The job comes with built-in child care, lots of hugs and the chance to make a difference.

But there are definite downsides — such as the possibility of working with a child who acts like a tyrant.

Budget Cuts Lead to Restructuring

Press Release St. Louis, Mo., June 28, 2010:

The Missouri Child Care Resource & Referral Network (MOCCRRN) announced today that it will restructure its regional service delivery in the wake of $750,000 in cuts to its state funding. Effective July 1st, MOCCRRN will consolidate all of its regional service delivery into four agencies, from the eight that have comprised its statewide network. In addition, starting January 1st, the referral service-which assists families in locating child care, early education and after-school programs for their children-will be centralized at the state level.

Programs Achieving Quality (PAQ) CDCA, the United Way and St. Louis Mental Health Board are rolling out “Programs Achieving Quality”. This program gives individualized training and resources to child care programs to develop an action plan based on their own specific needs.
